Subjective Tuning - Finding the Sweet Spot
At last! An aural tuning class that does not use an ETD as a monitor, or
complicated diagrams as a guide to that "mathematically" correct tuning.
What sounds best, and how do we get it? How do we find that "sweet spot"
in the tuning and use it to encourage the piano to sound its best? What are
useful tests and proceedures for the practicing piano technician? John Henry
will NOT be racing the steam-drill here! Intermediate level.
Polar Voicing and the Piano Hammer
This reprise of last years CA State presentation will examine the specific
areas of the piano hammer that produce specific acoustic results when approached
from a very particular perspective. How exactly do we analyse the sound that
we are hearing* for, and what proceedures do we use in order to acheive that
sound? Do hammers have a "good" side and a "bad" side? Intermediate level.
